Outlook For Corn Dimmed By Blasting Heat In Iowa
Corn in east central Iowa suffered heavy damage from a heat wave on Sunday with tops and tassels scorched in Linn County fields. Ear shoots may not silk before pollen shed, risking barren stalks and poorly pollinated ears, though Monday’s cooler weather offers some relief if rains come soon. Growth remains enough for fodder and silage, but pastures are exhausted and farmers rely on stubble and bundled feeds for livestock.
