Rock Island Shop History Recalled by Cedar Rapids Writer
C. H. Stone of Cedar Rapids recalls the Rock Island system once known as the B C R and N and its Cedar Rapids shops. He notes a $60,000 to $75,000 monthly payroll, wide local spending, and how shifts in rail work affected merchants and jobs. He urges business readers to invest in stable local commerce and plant seeds for the future.
