Courts At Iowa State Fair Case Focuses On Free Speech
State Fair security officers testified they did not know what Des Moines evangelist Powell was saying when ordered to leave last summer. Powell argues fair leaders infringed his free speech on two days, noting he stood outside ticketed areas while carrying a sign in front of busy entrances. A state trooper photographed him after a second day detention. The case, led by the Center for Religious Expression, tests fair authority over public spaces and free speech rights.
