ER visits tied to drugs hit record 2000 amid club drug rise
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration reports 601,776 drug related emergency room visits in 2000, up from 554,932 and the highest since record keeping began. Heroin and morphine shows a 15 percent jump and ecstasy climbs 58 percent to 4,511 visits. Cities with increases include Seattle Boston Los Angeles Miami Chicago Minneapolis Phoenix while Baltimore and San Francisco fall.
