Market Runs Of Grass Cattle And Lambs Begin Increase
Kansas City range cattle and lambs lead a week of gains with Kansas City posting a 10,000 head rise to 24,000 cattle as grass stock dominates the market. Omaha and other midwest markets report similar grass stock runs amid higher demand for stockers and feeders though financing remains tight. Slaughter rates in Chicago through June are 22 percent below last year, with July first two weeks down 30 percent and good grades noticeably off. however, gains in fed steers and bigger feeder arrivals offset some of the advance. Lamb supplies are largely range stock from Idaho and Washington, with strong quality reported and few feeder contracts in the West.

Entomologist Rules Dead Grasshoppers Do Not Stop Live Ones
Washington AP. Dr W H Larrimer of the agriculture department’s entomology bureau says spreading diseased grasshoppers wastes time and money. He notes hot wet weather favors natural fungal and bacterial outbreaks that curb plagues, while hot dry or cool wet weather hinders them. He dismisses the idea that distributing infected bodies stops living hoppers.
