Marion School Board weighs local option tax to cut debt levy
Marion Independent administrators consider a 25 or 33 percent debt service levy reduction over 10 years via a local option sales tax. A 25 percent cut would cost $3.75 million and lower the rate from 16.80 to 15.60 per thousand, while a 33 percent cut would cost $5 million and drop the rate to 15.20. The district also eyes over 11.4 million in projects and cites a 10-year 1 percent sales tax could yield about 15 million in new revenue.
