A morning blaze damaged a portion of Calico Ghost Town, but firefighters contained it before reaching original 1880s structures. The cause is under investigation, with aging electric lines suspected. No injuries reported and Calico remains a popular historic site drawing about 400,000 visitors yearly. San Bernardino County runs the town since 1966 after Knott family donation.

Safety agency probes Ford tire replacements amid Firestone recall
Federal investigators opened a probe into 2.7 million General Ameri 550 AS tires used on Ford F150s and as Firestone recall substitutes. NHTSA tallies 338 tread-separation claims, including three crashes with two rollovers and 17 injuries. Ford has removed the Ameri 550 from approved replacements while the inquiry continues.
