The Linn County Board of Supervisors vote 2 to 1 to raise the 15 county attorney and Friend of Court staff salaries by 19 percent, totaling 82 461 for the year starting Jan 1. Jim Houser opposed citing fairness versus earlier non bargaining unit raises. County Attorney Denver Dillard cited delays to ensure realistic increases.
A consultant studied pay scales for Linn County employees, aiming to align compensation with duties and qualifications and with market rates in the region and beyond. Incorporation of the plan for bargaining unit employees is expected to be part of negotiations in 1991 and 1992.
Sax soloist Bruce Western and vocalist Billy D. Davis headline the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band concert at Bowman Woods Elementary School. The program includes Marcello concerto movements, Drolla Souvenir, and works by Strauss Rimsky-Korsakov Story Leemans and Alexander.
Three older peregrine falcons in Cedar Rapids are missing, with Right Orange unseen since July 18. Bruce Ehresman of the Department of Natural Resources says the others, Back Orange and Right Green, could be adapting to life in the wild. A Cedar Rapids man, Joe Lloyd Jones, 32, was charged with drunken driving after a fatal crash on Interstate 74 near Galesburg Illinois. Jones allegedly struck the Stome vehicle, which rolled and killed Terry Lee Stome, 35, of Conway Arkansas. Three passengers survived as Jones faced additional counts for suspended license and uninsured vehicle.

Neil Trout 19 of 529 West Eighth Ave Marion arrested 1:04 a.m. Tuesday on 3200 block Seventh Ave in Marion. Martin Klees 22 of 5536 D Ave NW arrested 12:02 a.m. Tuesday at Edgewood Rd and Johnson Ave NW. Kurt McNamara 24 of Central City arrested 4:21 a.m. Sunday on Linn County Rd E-16 one half mile east of Drexler. Brian Pospidal 33 of 5141 Chestnut Valley Rd NE arrested 1:25 a.m. Saturday at I-380 and Seventh St NE.
