Cedar Rapids area skeptical of Susan B Anthony dollar
The Susan B Anthony dollar, circulated July 2, fails to win broad acceptance in Cedar Rapids area. Banks report initial demand from collectors, not spenders, and retailers note difficulty distinguishing from quarters, causing low circulation and reluctance to use as change. Some stores avoid handling or accept it only on request while employees fear shortchanging. The coin’s fate may hinge on Treasury action and broader adoption.
