Mondale finances show cautious, modest wealth and ethics
The Minnesota senator left a profitable private practice for attorney general in 1960 and avoided private financial dealings to prevent conflicts. He and his wife live modestly, own little property in Minnesota, and shifted to Washington life in a comfortable but restrained style. Tax data from 1970s show income rising with public prominence, modest charitable giving, and selective speaking engagements.
