Humphrey Expected To Seek Minnesota Senate Seat In 1970
Hubert Humphrey appears virtually certain to run for the Minnesota senate in 1970 as a step toward a possible Nixon rematch in 1972. Eugene McCarthy’s decision to retire from the Senate clears a path, though Humphrey remains noncommittal while abroad. Democratic strategists view the seat as a base for challenging the president, while Republican Clark MacGregor doubts a 1970 bid. Two other items note a Peruvian tuna boat fined for fishing violations and Paul Harvey previewing a segment on education.
