Flood aid available for Linn county farmers hit by floods
About 30 farmers attended a Marion meeting where Linn county ASC and FHA officials outlined emergency aid. Diversion designations allow diverted acres and 30 days temporary grazing, with August 19 deadline for switching. ECM funds may cover 80 percent of long term conservation work. FHA loans offer 3 percent interest for designated emergency areas, subject to bank approval and credit rejections from farmers' usual lenders.

Hardin Ends Push for Full Crop Program Phase-Out
Agriculture Secretary Clifford M. Hardin signals a partial shift in farm policy moving toward cropland retirement and targeted modifications rather than a total phase-out of major acreage controls and price supports. He hints at limited reforms, rejects a full abolition, and warns of a possible later clash with farm leaders over the scope and cost of reform.
