Shuttered Monroe Elementary becomes Monroe Place lofts
In Cedar Rapids the former Monroe Elementary, closed by the school board in 2012, reopens as Monroe Place with apartment and two bedroom loft units. Sue Serbousek recalls the building as her long time home and predicts renewed life as tenants move in in July. City leaders call the project a potential model for future school rehabilitations in the area.
