West Union's Green Streets Pilot Transforms Downtown
West Union pursued a $10.2 million green streets project funded largely by grants to revitalize the downtown. Permeable pavers, rain gardens, bioswales, and a geothermal network modernized streetscapes, while facade upgrades and a downtown housing push added livability. Five years on, residents cite aesthetic gains and reduced flooding, though some issues persist and retail impact remains mixed.
