Cedar Rapids Area Convention and Visitors Bureau will announce today that the 2010 World Horseshoe Pitching Tournament will take place at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena with a 10 a.m. media conference. Tournament dates are July 27 through August 7, 2010.
Cedar Rapids Kernels beat Burlington 6-4 at Community Field snapping Burlington's six game slide. Kernels outhit the Bees 11 to 8 led by three hits from Andrew Romine and multi hit efforts from Clay Fuller Hector Estrella Efren Navarro and Alex Silversmith. Esmerlin Jiminez took the loss. The game aired on KMRY 1450.
Iowa State coach Gene Chizik warned of growing pains as the Cyclones pursue improvement after a 3-9 debut. Kennedy starter Chris Sadler conceded the two out hit to set up Alison’s pivotal swing.
Detroit Shock and assistant coach Rick Mahorn clashed with the Los Angeles Sparks in a Tuesday night melee at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Katie Smith says the incident drew broad attention across TV and blogs, with league review pending before Wednesday’s decisions.
