Residents of Cedar Rapids Jefferson neighborhood reflect on staying put as growth reshapes the west side. Longtime homeowners like Keith Fleck and Daryl DeHook praise the area’s quiet streets, friendly neighbors, and proximity to parks, schools, and shops.
Bob Ask, longtime Jefferson High School teacher and coach, received the highest compliment from Principal Bob Tesar who inducted him into the Hall of Fame last year. The 71 year old and his wife Marilyn, neighbors near 1818 Ninth Ave SW, have centered their lives on Jeff since 1958.
Donutland on Williams Boulevard serves as a daily gathering spot for locals after Jeff games and school events. Regulars include 81-year-old Donald Whitney and 62-year-old Clair Williamson who value the social interaction, coffee, and doughnuts as a daily routine and therapy.
