Power Plant Built On Smoke and Steam From Oat Hulls

The Iowa Electric Light and Power Plant powers Quaker Oats mills by using stack gas and recycled smoke from ground oat hulls. Monstrous 280 ton generators run 3 600 rpm, serving 132 towns with 32 875 KW, while staff monitor cooling and air systems to prevent outages during storms. The Cedar Rapids plant has rarely shut down in ten years, and the firm celebrates its fiftieth anniversary with a history compiled by Arthur Huntington.
