In Cedar Rapids, Elaine Samek and Czech School teach ages 6 to 14 the Czech alphabet, phrases, culture, and holidays over three weeks. Students practice numbers and colors, perform songs for a June 29 program, and prepare a 150th anniversary celebration next year. The class also includes Vanoce and Velikonoce lessons with cookies and kraslice decorations. Samek notes her Czech heritage motivates the program.
