Lawmakers vow charges over school board probe abuses

Bright Idea: Iowa Colleges Cut Energy Use and Save Millions

Iowa campuses cut energy use with fixes large and small. At Iowa State University departments saved 3 million from 2009 to 2010 and funds returned to programs. UNI trimmed 500 fix saving 37000 in year one, with about 30 traps fixed. Iowa biomass effort reduced fuel costs by 4.5 million from 2003 to 2009 and will expand to a second boiler. UNI official says savings run to hundreds of thousands.

Slippery Yellowstone River hazard blamed for angler death

Frank Jaszcz, a 65 year old retired Mount Mercy College biology professor, drowned after losing footing while fishing the Yellowstone River in Montana. National Park Service and fisheries biologist Todd Keel note such angler deaths are rare and highlight swift currents and slick substrates.
