Veterans Memorial Flame Dedication Honors All Servicemen

In Cedar Rapids about 500 people gathered on May's Island for the dedication of the Veterans Memorial Building eternal flame. Al Lenway, commission chair, urged the light to remind all to guard freedom and keep the flame burning for many years. The original natural gas flame burned 1951 to 1954, was extinguished for safety, and planners unveiled a new steel flame to be lit from the bottom.
