The fourth annual Jakway Jamboree brings old time folk and country music to Jakway Park south of Aurora on August 6 and 7. Open stage on Aug 6 noon to 3, with 5 to 11 p m concerts and 11 a m to 6 p m shows on Aug 7. Indoor venue if rain, church service Aug 7, proceeds fund Old Stagecoach Inn restoration.
FBI agents found 32 year old Jeffrey Mark Sharer dead in his Des Moines apartment after a search warrant. Authorities noted no immediate sign of violence and an autopsy was ordered to determine cause of death. Sharer was suspected in the July 6 robbery of the American Federal Savings and Loan Association.
Tom Linder of Cedar Rapids becomes Post 10 commander in Oelwein after 11 years with Post 11 in Cedar Rapids. The Oelwein native previously served with the Oelwein Police Department before joining the patrol in 1968, succeeding Commander Larry Noble who moved to Des Moines.
