Governor declares seven Iowa counties disaster areas due to flooding
Governor Robert Ray designated Iowa, Linn, Poweshiek, Benton, Johnson, Polk and Jasper counties as disaster areas after heavy rains. The move unlocks state aid for road cleanup though Linn County officials estimate $50,000 to $200,000 in damages, including 60 to 90 miles of gravel roads and washouts. Federal aid eligibility will be assessed, with a separate request for five additional counties for federal disaster aid.
