Iowa City to Install Stop Signs at Dips on Lexington

After a four hour session the Iowa City council agreed to place two stop signs on Lexington avenue to halt northbound traffic at McLean street and southbound traffic near the hill top just north of the dips. The move aligns with city manager Smiley’s plan to test other options first. The council also discussed traffic signs for Park road and Kirkwood avenue and will consider school crossing designations with the school board. They plan a first reading of a new human rights ordinance, expanding the local commission from seven to nine and adding a 15 day limit for hearings. A lease housing proposal for low income families via federal funds was reviewed with a requested fall referendum up to 250 units, to be housed in existing dwellings.
