Flax Outproduces Oats Threefold In North Tama County Field
Iowa farmers report flax yields in 1931 averaged 139 bushels per acre with grain valued at 120 dollars per bushel, while oats averaged far less. Current flax price ranges 89 cents to 1 dollar a bushel, and acreage rose from 23 000 to about 25 000 nationally, aided by flax’s weed resistance and use as a nurse crop.
