Cherry Burrell Corporation moved its executive offices from Chicago to Cedar Rapids plant at 2400 Sixth St SW. About 60 Chicago staff join roughly 100 Chicago employees absorbed into Cedar Rapids operations. Move aims to speed communications, consolidate operations, and place management near the Little Falls plant. Finance, sales, export and President Howard H. Cherry Jr’s staff transferred as part of the shift.
The body of 21 year old Nathan Allan Clemens was found in a septic tank at Albia Rendering Company grounds after a search that included dragging at three ponds and probing three tanks. Fire rescue squads from Albia and Knoxville assisted. Nathan was son of Mr and Mrs Alvin Clemens who lived with eight children on the rendering plant property.
Independence officers recaptured 29 year old Jim Johnson Jr of Silvan Springs Ark after a three county manhunt. Johnson, a carnival worker, escaped from Buchanan County jail Monday night and was found hiding under machinery at a tire shop on Independence’s west edge. He was brought back to jail without resistance.
President Nasser told a cheering Cairo crowd that all Arab states will win freedom. He said Lebanon and Amman would prevail against imperialism and that every Gulf state would gain statehood. Cairo radio pegged 500000 listeners in Republic Square on the revolutions anniversary as Iraqi radio joined Egyptian and Syrian networks to broadcast.
Safety Commissioner Bob Johnson announced that forty offstreet spaces at A avenue and Third street NE will switch from all-day to three-hour meters starting Wednesday. The two rows near the viaduct will be 5 cents per hour for three hours, leaving 78 stalls at 10-hour 24 and a quarter cents per hour. The change follows input from local business leaders.
Albert John Seeman 69 Cedar Rapids resident since 13 years died in a local hospital after a long illness. Born in Newhall he was affiliated with the Lutheran church. Surviving are son Dean Seeman daughter Mrs Edward Shors Jr and stepdaughter Mrs Christian Brodersen, all of Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at the Rohn funeral home after 6 p.m. Tuesday. Clara Schneider Wernisch dies Monday at 865 Oakland Road NE. Funeral services set for 3 30 p m Wednesday in Turner chapel with Rev J Richard Wagner of First Congregational church and Cedar Rebekah lodge No 494 officiating. Burial at Czech National cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.

Eli Eck died Monday night in a Waterloo hospital after a sudden illness. He was married to the late Mabel Emo Greene, twin sister of Mrs. Perry Roberts of 1811 Fifth Ave SE. He is survived by three daughters and a son.
West Des Moines city council blocked Mayor Giles's plan to appoint Patrolman Vance Werninger as police chief by setting the job salary at 100 dollars a month. The council then kept the current chief as captain at 425 dollars monthly, leaving Werninger unable to accept the post after the surprise move. Werninger, with four years on the force, said he cannot take the chief job at the salary offered. Councilman Henry Gering noted Werninger lacks sufficient experience for sergeant level duties.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee unanimously endorsed a plan for a permanent United Nations police force to maintain peace in the Middle East and other troubled areas. The resolution, sponsored by Senator Sparkman, would place both chambers on record in favor of emergency UN forces as vital for international peace and security.
A Senate appropriations subcommittee approved keeping the armed forces at high strength. The army would stay around 900000, the marines 200000, the national guard 500000, and the reserves 300000. The move aims to fund readiness amid the Middle East crisis.

Herbert Knutsen, 18, an AWOL marine from 29 Palms Calif, held in Benton county jail over the weekend after being arrested by the highway patrol Saturday. Companion James Clark, 19, of Salt Lake City, Utah, got three days for vagrancy. They abandoned their car on highway 30 after a fire blew out. They were hitchhiking when arrested.
Four Wellman boys were arrested Saturday night in What Cheer by city officials and brought to the county jail by Sheriff John Wallerich. They were arraigned Sunday. Dave Butterbaugh 18 pled guilty to disturbing the peace and paid 50 dollars and costs. John Floyd Harcrow 18 pled guilty to the same charge and also was fined 50 dollars and costs. Charles Whetstine 17 and Gerald Allen 16 were charged with reckless driving and each fined 50 dollars and costs.
Wilbur Trudgian, 69, of Waterloo died after a car truck collision on Highway 66 three miles south of Hinsdale Illinois. His wife Olive, 69, was in severe shock with concussion and chest injuries.
Joseph G. Shimek, 36, of 1829 Lst SW, pled innocent Monday to a drunk driving charge after arrest early Sunday. Herbert E. Nickels, 30, of 1403 Tenth St SE, was given until Wednesday to enter a plea following a Saturday night arrest. Kenneth Crosby, 31, of 214 Fourth Ave SW, jailed Monday for failure to pay a $500 drunk driving fine. owes $450 and faces 136 days in jail at $344 daily if payments cannot be renewed.
The will of Edgar Ludwig who died July 9 is admitted for probate. It leaves a life estate to his wife Minnie with the remainder to four children Ruth Blanchard Marguerite Mc Glaughlin James Beagle and Irvin Ludwig a brother Ralph and two sisters Irene Horne and Margaret Ludwig. Omar and Marguerite Mc Glaughlin are named executors and trustees of a trust holding the property.
Judgments were entered Monday in three suits. Mutual Surety Company of Iowa versus Mabel Munsell for 3787.54 on a 1948 guardianship judgment. Ambro Advertising Agency versus Keith H. Ehlers for 1042.26 on a promissory note. Empire Mutual Insurance Company versus Kenny Smith for 540 on a bad check.
In district court on Monday a $11 750 suit against the Grace Tschirgi estate was dismissed after a compromise. Plaintiff was Paul A Tschirgi. Remaining claims of 28 543 by Anthony Tschirgi Jr and Ruth Tschirgi Berry against the estate are pending. Merchants National Bank serves as executor.
On Monday two auto collision suits saw counterclaims. Joseph S. Nowell seeks 164.82 against William R. Wagaman who asks 172.16. Separately Jerry Purdin counters Joseph O. Peterson for 43 while Peterson seeks 181.79.
Mary E. Newcomb filed a suit for separate maintenance against William P. Newcomb and Dorothy L. Pittman filed against Delber R. Pitt in a Tuesday action.
Delores Rueber, 21, and her passengers were injured when a spider on the car ceiling caused a loss of control two miles north of Oelwein Iowa. The car crossed the road knocked down a mailbox and hit a farmhouse yard. Rueber paid a $10 fine for failure to have her car under control.
A 1958 model car driven by 20 year old Gerald Duffy of Iowa City ran off a T intersection two miles west of Iowa City about 1 a.m. Tuesday. Damage was estimated at 1500 dollars. Duffy and two companions were not hurt. the car did not overturn after hitting an embankment.
Israel accused the Romanian legation official Stelian Peri anu of espionage and ordered his departure within three days, stating proof exists. The action heightened tensions between Israel and Romania in Jerusalem.

Mrs. E. G. Nelson age 38 of 1121 North L avenue NW and her 11 year old son Ricky were injured in a four car crash Tuesday morning at First Avenue and Fifth Street West. They were taken to St Luke's hospital for treatment. Police accuse Frank Vrba of running a red light as he traveled west on First Avenue causing the collision with Mrs Nelson's car. The impact sent Stok's Belle Plaine driven vehicle into Lottie Potter's car at 1422 Baker NW.
Weekend burglaries in Iowa City target the Midwest Placing Company site and the R. T. Fedderson home. Thieves stole 60 bags of concrete aggregate and 12 bags of cement from a Burge hall construction sub contractor, and a $40 billfold from the Feddersons’ back bedroom after removing a screen and breaking a window.
