Charles Bode 88 of 4238 Woodfield Lane NE Cedar Rapids died Sunday after a long illness. He owned Bede Optical Co for over 50 years before retirement and was active in St Pauls United Methodist church Mizpah Lodge AF AM and other Cedar Rapids organizations. Burial at Cedar Memorial. Services Wednesday at Turner chapel east. He is survived by a daughter two brothers and grandchildren. Blanche Bell Hayes 80 Cedar Rapids widow died Sunday. She was born December 16 1894 in Mason City and belonged to Jehovahs Witness church. Surviving: four daughters two sons a sister and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Burial at Cedar Memorial. Services Wednesday at Turner chapel east. Miss Hinka Goldberg 81 of Chicago died Saturday in Minot ND while visiting. She lived in Cedar Rapids until the 1930s and held Chicago office roles and Jewish community memberships. Burial in Eben Israel cemetery. Shalom Home donation option noted.

Two Breakins At Mr T's On Mt Vernon Road

Weekend burglaries at Mr T's 1052 Mt Vernon road SE report two separate incidents. First entry Friday night cost 30 pants at $6 each. Preston Man Charged With Embezzlement

Donald Witt cashier and manager at Farmers Savings Bank of Preston in Jackson County faces three counts of bank embezzlement in Cedar Rapids federal court. He allegedly misappropriated $20,000 on three occasions in 1974 1975 including $2,000 in July 1974 $4,000 in January 1975 and $14,000 in April 1976.

$250,000 Award In Sioux City Malpractice Suit

A U. S. District Court jury awarded John Garner of South Sioux City Neb. and his four year old son James $250000 in damages from Dr Omar Stauch of St Luke's Sioux City for medical treatment after birth in 1971. The hospital was cleared. the doctor pays $200000 to the boy and $50000 to the father. James was born nearly two months premature in March 1971.

Magistrate Hears Three Linn Cases

In Linn County magistrate court Dean Paul of 2046 North Towne Lane NE was found guilty of defrauding an inn keeper, fined 100 dollars plus costs for an incident dated May 13 at the Colony motel. George Wozenilek, address unavailable, had a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor dismissed for an incident on July 1. Steven Seehuser of Mechanicsville pled guilty to an amended reckless driving charge, fined 100 dollars plus costs, after arrest on June 28 for drunk driving.

Charles Hill Admitted After Fall at Cedar Rapids Plant

Charles Hill aged 56 of 3726 Westwood Drive NW was admitted in fair condition to St Luke's hospital Monday morning with a back injury from a fall at Cedar Rapids Engineering Co. located at 902 Seventeenth Street NE where he works.

Marion resident Joseph Mead dies at 52

Joseph Lee Mead Jr. 52 of 1080 Brockman Ave Marion died Sunday after a lengthy illness. Born Aug 4 1922 in Nebraska City Neb he moved to Cedar Rapids in 1932 and married Mary Briles July 31 1953 in Cedar Rapids. He served in World War II and worked 28 years for FMC Corp. He was active in First Baptist Church Hanford Post American Legion Mt Hermon Lodge Cedar Rapids Consistory and El Kabir Shrine. Services Wednesday at 1 30 pm at Turner's East with burial at Cedar Memorial Cemetery and Amerian Legion military rites. Visitation at Turner's East until Wednesday after the service. Two Linn Men Face Drunk Driving Counts

Two Linn county men, Larry G. Beckwith and Joseph B. Kelley, were arrested by deputies Sunday on drunk driving charges. Beckwith, 37, of Central City, held on second offense with $1,000 bond. Kelley, 48, of 2257 C Street SW, released to adult corrections after erratic driving on Wilson Avenue SW.
