County budget up four mills in Linn County plan

Linn County voters face a tax rise of about four mills next year to cover a proposed county budget of 10,502,03 dollars, up from 9,301,459 dollars this year. The levy is expected to raise 7,429,704 dollars via property taxes with the rest from balances fees state aid and other sources. Public hearing set for Aug. The county levy per mill is estimated to bring 963,000 dollars based on a 983 million taxable valuation.

Nixon Rules Out Viet Coalition And Desegregation Force

President Nixon ruled out an imposed coalition government in South Vietnam and rejected sending Justice Department agents to enforce desegregation in the South. Kidnaped Girl's Body Found After 12 Days in Lansing

A 16 year old Laur ie Murninghan, daughter of a former mayor, was found dead after a 12 day search. She was abducted from a gift shop by an armed man during a July 9 robbery. Her father Max Murninghan appealed publicly for the kidnapper to stop. Police described the captor as a 20 to 25 year old black man. An autopsy identified her by dental records. cause of death not released. A $5,000 reward was offered, and FBI agents pursued leads without success. A Flint man was charged with extortion in a separate incident.

Walker Woman Killed in Rural Iowa Crash

Wilda Staton 48 of rural Walker was killed and Lyle Neuhauser 43 of Waterloo was seriously injured in a two car crash at a blind intersection one mile east and half mile north of here. Staton was en route to Winthrop when the grinding collision occurred as foliage obscured vision. Interstate 380 second segment let in Iowa
