French Assault Rages In Bizerte Port Siege

Tunisian officials report a massive French attack at Bizerte by land sea and air. Tunisian troops fought in the port while paratroops tanks and naval launches pressed toward the city center as the U N Security Council met. U S Experts To Research Cedar Rapids Water Taste

A U S health department team from the Taft water research lab Cincinnati Ohio will study ways to remove objectionable taste and odor from Cedar Rapids water. Mayor Meaghan said the group will work with city water works staff under Dr Graham Walton who sees no magic fix but hopes for improvements.

Crops Damaged By Hail in Northwest Iowa

Hail wind and heavy rain struck northwest Iowa Thursday night with corn and soybean losses reaching 100 percent in a narrow strip north of Spencer and about 75 percent near Ocheyedan. Emmetsburg saw hail with unclear damage while Curlew reported 3.10 inches of rain.

West Virginia flood toll rises to nineteen

A flood disaster in West Virginia left 19 dead as mud covered valleys and survivors returned to ruined homes. Rescue teams, exhausted and muddy, searched ravines and waited for word on missing people after nearly six inches of rain triggered the flash flood.
