Soldier's smile, love recalled in Des Moines area funeral
Pfc. Eric Paul Woods 26 of Omaha died July 9 in Iraq while aiding a wounded soldier. About 300 mourners attended his funeral at Johnston Evangelical Free Church. Woods, a 1997 Urbandale High School graduate, served in G Troop 2nd Squadron 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment Fort Carson Colorado deployed to Iraq in March. A memory book for his three year old son was requested as family and friends spoke of his humor and fatherhood. The service included a Bronze Star and Purple Heart, followed by burial at McDivitt Grove Cemetery Urbandale with a flag presentation to Woods' widow and parents.

Body of 2 Year Old Found in Pool Near Ackley
The body of a 2-year-old girl was found in a swimming pool Monday evening at a home northwest of Ackley. She was taken to Ellsworth Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy was ordered.
