Airport director's pay cut amid Iowa City budget strain
Iowa City Municipal Airport will halve director Ron O'Neil's salary and eliminate his benefits as part of cost-cutting. The $60,070 annual pay will drop by $36,000 effective Nov. 1, while the other full-time employee's $34,257 remaining unchanged. Driver Dies After Feature Race At Independence Speedway
Les Verly a 44 year old driver from Grundy Center collapsed after a feature race at Independence Motor Speedway. Rescue crews cut through the car roof to reach him and he later died at Buchanan County Health Center. He competed in IMCA late model events and worked as a truck driver.

Woman charged after fatal Iowa County crash on Highway 151
Mary Gen Genciana 33 of Willowbrook Indiana faces a misdemeanor for failure to control after her vehicle veered onto the shoulder three miles south of Amana then crossed into oncoming traffic and struck another car killing 36 year old Agnes Almo of Woodridge Illinois. Genciana was airlifted to University Hospitals Iowa City while two other occupants were treated and released.
