Ray vetoes barrier to alcohol treatment access in Iowa
Gov. Robert Ray exercised an item veto on two bills from the Iowa legislature. He struck a section in the social services appropriation affecting voluntary admissions to alcohol treatment and vetoed three items from the legislative budget bill. He said the section could block access to care and undermine patient rights. The veto also removed mandates for real estate transactions and capital expenditures oversight, leaving the executive council as the sole approver for such actions.
