Iraq Regime Ends Jordan Union as Rebels Pledge Oil Flow

Washington AP dispatch reports Iraq's revolutionary regime says the Bagdad Jordan federation ended, while rebels vow to keep oil shipments to Western buyers and to help evacuate Americans. The Hussein throne dispute remains unresolved as the embassy asserts no ties to Hussein. Saleh Mahdi, a rebel envoy, conveyed this to the State Department.

Lisbon Couple and Stanwood Man Die in Crash Near DeWitt

Three elderly Iowans died in a Saturday car truck collision on Highway 30 near DeWitt as they were en route to George Mussig’s funeral. Sam H. Andre and Elizabeth Andre of Lisbon aged 15 and 73 respectively perished. Elizabeth’s brother Albert Mussig, 76, of Stanwood died later at a DeWitt hospital. Truck driver Howard Beck, 38, of Independence was injured. Surviving family includes Leonard Andre of Cedar Rapids. Bodies transported to Lisbon and Clarence funeral homes. The crash occurred just across from the expected funeral site on a gravel road access.

Soviet government planned Moscow embassy protest, officials say

U S officials report convincing evidence that mass demonstrations outside the U S embassy in Moscow were orchestrated by the Soviet government. Washington had protested Russia over the protests on Thursday and Friday and demanded compensation. Ambassador Llewellyn Thompson lodged the protests with the Soviet foreign office. Authorities say the large turnout was not spontaneous and cite specific incidents as proof of official responsibility.

Missouri Floods Kill and Trap Train in Eastern State

Torrential rains dumped up to four inches causing flash floods and earth slides across eastern Missouri. Three drowned, including a mother and son in a submerged station wagon near Old Appleton. Fanfani Wins Confidence Vote in Rome Chamber

Premier Amintore Fanfani won a confidence vote by a narrow margin in the chamber of deputies. The 295 to 287 result supported his Euro Western policy and rejected Communist calls to align with the Six Union. The vote cleared the way for Fanfani, also foreign minister, to meet U.S. Secretary of State Dulles in Washington. Nine abstentions.
