Nazi Germany opened its anti church campaign after Goering decree. Police closed the Catholic Young Men's association home at Kaiserslautern citing tension with Nazi youth and alleged opposition to the government. Munich police seized the archbishopric gazette without explanation.

Chicago report details Joseph Gornik confessing to stabbing 19 year old Mary Lukavich in a park after an argument with Frederick Boltz. Gornik says they formed a death pact and kissed her before the fatal blows. He first wounded her, then stabbed again when she begged to die, later seeking a doctor.
Chicago police reported William Cunningham a 37 year old associate of Frankie Lake bootleg figure slain in a downtown saloon. Five bullets fired in an argument with a man who fled. A brown coat matching the killer’s was found, with a card reading Nate Schlitz in its pocket.
Amster dam KLM Airways reports thirteen dead after a Milan to Amsterdam airliner crashes into Swiss mountains near San Bernardino pass. Nine passengers and four crew members die. no Americans aboard. Victims include a German, two Englishmen, and six Dutch passengers.

Hullerman a 40 year old Independence cafe owner and railway mail clerk was attacked at his Wapsie river cottage five miles west of Independence on Friday night. The assailants forced him to drive to town and to his cafe to obtain money then fled. Hullerman alerted a customer, Allen Moyle of Oelwein, and the robbers’ car was later found wrecked three miles east of Oelwein. Police had no trace of the youths by noon Saturday.
Ottawa reports Prime Minister R. B. Bennett announced Saturday Canada will impose a 33 1 3 percent ad valorem tariff on Japanese goods entering the country in retaliation for Japanese trade measures.
In New York a patrolman questioned a truck driver after a minor accident when a thief moved to the rear of the vehicle. A woman’s scream frightened the thief, who was caught, ending the effort.

The body of 51 year old Martha Josephine Pritchett of Taylor Springs was found in a ditch near Schram City. George Hailey 19 found the body while en route to plowing corn. She had visited her adopted daughter Mrs Scott Palmer and often walked between Taylor Springs and Schram City. Police say she may have accepted a ride from a motorist and was slain with her body dragged onto a car and dragged into the ditch.
A giant four engine 15 ton bomber dubbed the flying fortress was taxied at Boeing Field for an eighteen minute test run. Pilot Les Tower announced the plane ready for its maiden flight after motors and equipment were adjusted. Built to 250 mph and 2500 miles nonstop, the craft will head to Dayton Ohio in August for Army contract competition. Boeing officials kept design details secret prior to the test. The craft seats ten with machine gun turrets automatic flying gear and a radio directional compass.
Tom Smith of 242 283 Twelfth Avenue SW was arrested after Cedar Rapids police found the largest wine stock ever confiscated in a home. Police discovered nine barrels, over 500 gallons, in a basement and a hidden sub cellar. Eight empty barrels lay near rhubarb as evidence of production. The raid, with Justice Grunewald’s warrant, resulted in confiscation and Smith facing illegal possession and sale charges. Sheriff James Smith and detectives Marshall, Wilson and Haberle conducted the operation.
Police in Paris detained 1 537 demonstrators after clashes over Premier Laval's economy decrees cutting veterans bonuses and government wages. Army and mobile guards patrolled the city as 10 000 war veterans clashed with police before mass arrests calmed the unrest.
