A Roper poll commissioned by H and R Block shows a broad drop in anger over income taxes with 48 percent favoring higher Social Security taxes and 77 percent supporting an excess profits tax on oil firms. The survey of 1502 adults in May also finds 31 percent deem the federal income tax fair, up from 1978.
The FAA announced a 385000 dollar penalty against Pacific Southwest Airlines for alleged maintenance record keeping and other violations on Boeing 727s from 1978 to 1979. PSA disputes the charges saying its safety record and maintenance procedures are FAA approved and that the fines may be excessive. The six page notification lists ten specific charges including uninspected oil leaks and cracked landing gear parts.
