Former Inmate Tells Ordeal at Con Son Island

A 28 year old village tailor who was shackled beaten deprived of food water and air at Con Son prison describes four years seven months there in an interview at An Quang pagoda in Cholon. He recalls tiger cages scarce water and brutal punishments and says American advisers knew of the conditions. He arrived December 1966 and was flown to Saigon with about 130 prisoners before release papers were arranged after three days in local prisons.

Wallenda Performs Headstand Above Tallulah Gorge

Karl Wallenda, 65, executed the first of two headstands 750 feet above Tallulah Gorge in Georgia during a 25 minute walk on a two-inch cable. About 35,000 spectators watched as he completed a 1,000-foot crossing over the gorge, saying the headstands were for the boys in Vietnam.

Formerly Missing Cedar Rapids serviceman dead in Vietnam

The army confirms the death of Spec. 4-c Dennis Keith Martin, 24, of Cedar Rapids who had been missing in Vietnam since July 10 and died of combat injuries. He was married to Sue Martin, taught second grade at Madison School, and attended Washington High School and Iowa State University before joining the Army. He was born July 4, 1946 in Atlantic City, N J.

Two youths held in Chicago police murder case

A 14 year old and two others were charged with murder in the sniper killings of two community relations officers near Cabrini-Green. Police say a fourth suspect is wanted. The trio used rifles found in an incinerator after a gang peace party turned deadly.
