Two Tots Drown in Wapsipinicon River
In Buchanan county near Dunkerton two young siblings of Mr and Mrs Eugene Ortner died during a family outing at Cutshaw park on the Wapsipinicon river. Nine year old Michael E Ortner and his sister Patricia ten disappeared after entering a deep hole while wading with two cousins. Maureen Meier 16 tried to help but failed. Janice Meier 9 reached shore for observation. Michael’s body was recovered within twenty minutes while Patricia remained missing for about 24 hours before being found in twenty feet of water by local fire crews.
