Flyer Killed En Route to Reconciliation With Wife
Capt. Stephen Darius and Stanley T. Girenus died in a crash in Germany while attempting a nonstop Newark to Kaunas flight. Darius, an American Lithuanian flyer, aimed to reunite with his wife and 3 year old daughter after years apart. The men had flown 4,500 miles in about 30 hours when the tragedy occurred near Soldin in Pomerania.

E. W. Turner 81 of Belle Plaine died by hanging in jail Monday night while held for investigation. Authorities say he was mentally ill. Turner was formerly a drug company salesman. His widow and son Donald survive.

Bond set at 500 dollars. arrest occurred Sunday evening by police.
