The city of Tiffin extends law enforcement reach by contracting with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office for 12 hour day shifts while night shifts stay hourly. From fiscal 2026 the sheriff’s office adds two new county positions for full 24 hour coverage, with two more in the following year totaling six officers. The city pays 80 percent in 2025 and climbs to 95 percent by year five, with costs rising to about 1.2 million by 2029 as population and tax base grow. Deputy Michael Hynes leads community outreach to integrate sheriff presence.
