Judge rules for Iowa social worker quitting over unsafe illness notices
Mary Lovejoy Castaneda, a former social worker at Care Initiatives Heritage Specialty Care in Cedar Rapids, quit after the facility failed to post notices of contagious illnesses among residents. Administrative Law Judge James Timberland found the lack of notice exposed her to infection risk and awarded unemployment benefits, noting a bait and switch regarding hospice assignments. The ruling supports Castaneda's claim of good cause to quit.
