Iowa liquor tax repeal sparks bulk purchase fears

DES MOINES AP The Iowa liquor commission weighs immediate repeal of bulk purchase discounts to avert a run before the change. The bill ends the 10 percent sales tax on liquor license holders and replaces it with a 15 percent tax at state stores on liquor bought for resale. Licensees may stock up before the change, risking unsold inventories when the new tax takes effect. Gov. Hughes is away on vacation.
