Eight-Day Sit In Broken Up by Police in Chicago
Civil rights demonstrators protesting desegregation policies at Chicago public schools clashed with police at the board of education building. Three leaders were arrested after breaking a police line while a 10-year-old girl was lightly hurt and four officers sustained minor cuts. CORE and SNCC members led a later march with chants demanding Jim Crow end.
