Osprey chicks hatch after Iowa conservation project effort
The article details years of work by Iowa volunteers led by Jodeane Cancilla to raise and band osprey chicks near Coralville Lake. McGrew removed the chicks from a nest 40 feet up while the parent pair watched from nearby, with hundreds of University of Iowa campers observing. The hatch marks Iowa's second documented wild osprey hatch since European settlement, with the first near Spirit Lake. The youngsters will test their wings in weeks, learn to fish, and will migrate to Central and South America before possibly returning in two to three years.
