Death Valley is a vast park about 130 miles long and six to 14 miles wide. It is the largest national park in the lower 48 states and about the size of Connecticut. The area features badlands canyons snowcapped peaks and vast salt flats. Badwater is 282 feet below sea level, with nearby mountains rising about two miles. The valley averages 2.5 inches of rain annually, though rainfall has increased recently. The record high temperature is 134 degrees Fahrenheit on July 10 1913 in the shade.
