County Attorneys Get Stamp Holders Names

Atty. Gen. Dayton Countryman said his office will send the buyers of new federal retail liquor stamps to county attorneys to aid enforcement of the state liquor law. He urged frequent checks of stamp holders’ operations as an effective enforcement policy. Iowa has purchased 422 federal liquor stamps since July 1 despite the crackdown.

Cedar County Assessor Budget Set at 16250 Dollars

Tipton Cedar county Conference committee approved the 1956 budget for the assessor's department. Assessor H. L. Busching will earn 3900 dollars yearly, with Mrs Gertrude Biggs at 2850 dollars and fieldmen paid 130 dollars per hour plus 7 cents per mile. A hearing date of August 5 at 1 30 p m was scheduled. Cedar county notes the 1954 levy of .326 is the lowest in the east central district of 12 counties and the lowest operating cost for county assessor offices in the district.

Clown Gill Famed Iowa Rotarian Turned Local Entertainer

Gorda J. Gill a well known Rotarian from Manchester Iowa and regional businessman dabbled in clowning joining a Strawberry Point gala and a Manchester country club party. His act began with a frying pan canned heat and bacon and drew crowds on the floor. Gill hopes to recruit new Circus Clowns Club of America members from Eastern Iowa and invites serious applicants to write to him. Gill was born north of Manchester and began work as a funeral director at 18. He now runs businesses in Manchester Volga Ryan and Strawberry Point and remains prominent across the northeast Iowa area.

County Officials In Delaware County Gain Pay Hikes

County officials and deputies in Delaware County receive higher salaries after a General Assembly rule takes effect. Supervisors move to 11 per day in session from 10, Clerks get 180 more per year by service length, extra office help up 10 percent, and top officials rise to 3900 annually from 3500. Deputy roles also increase to 2925 yearly, with Maynard Spaight’s deputy sheriff pay rising to 3315.
