Bever Park Honors Washington With Floral Flag Display
About 3000 patriotic plants form an elaborate floral tribute at Bever Park in memory of George Washington. Gardener W A Volz designed a reproduction of the American flag with the inscription 1732 1932 and Bever Park above it. The flag bed 11 by 6.5 feet uses red and green alternanthera for stripes, blue gray santolinas for a starry field, and is bordered by moss roses California poppies and verbenas. Four days of work and an overhead scaffold kept the display in trim through the summer until frost.

Don’t Kiss the Baby Sign Sparks Family Banter
A humorous exchange centers on a wall sign reading Don’t Kiss the Baby. A daughter remarks her father, the suitor, hung it and jokes about family dynamics. The humor relies on the idea of an only child and the playful portrait of courtship.
