Linn County genealogists race to index records for patrons
Volunteers at the Linn County Genealogical Society in Cedar Rapids index birth, death, marriage and other records stored in the Masonic Library basement. The Iowa Genealogical Society finished Iowa’s statewide index, while Linn County’s group continues at a third of the work with cross references to city directories. President Pat Wilkinson notes the census index will aid recent family history research and recalls discovering her grandmother Rose Marie Hoffman’s age was misrepresented on the 1940 census.
