Waste transfer project blocked by Cedar Rapids planning panel
The Cedar Rapids City Planning Commission voted 4-3 to recommend denying a conditional use permit for Valley Transfer Systems to build a 40 000 square foot waste transfer facility near Edgewood Road and Highway 30. The $4 million site would handle up to 130 000 tons a year and is opposed by General Mills citing safety and pest concerns. The recommendation goes to the Board of Adjustment for final action.
