First Atomic Bomb Explosion Marked Trinity Site 22 Years Ago
Alamogordo New Mexico fifty five miles from town marks the Trinity Site once the Buzz bomb test area. The July16 1945 explosion created a 10 foot crater ground zero a 41000 foot mushroom cloud and rattled windows as far as Amarillo Texas and Gallup New Mexico. The test led to the nuclear age and the later megaton weapons.
