Thousands of Flood Victims To Be Helped In Iowa
DES MOINES IA Thousands of flood victims are to receive Red Cross aid over the coming months totaling about 10 640 for June. Local committees plan with 2 400 families who lost 37 homes and suffered damage to 3 978 dwellings and 3 288 other buildings across 23 affected counties. Disaster awards are grants when local resources are insufficient. About 1 311 families have applied for aid. rehabilitation projects have been completed in five counties. National and local Red Cross units have spent or committed 175 000 to date with more work in Wapello County where 1 514 families are registered. 51 disaster workers are aiding 24 Iowa chapters during the flood recovery effort.

Survival movement forms in Iowa City for UN reform

Driver's Arm Mangled In Highway Accident
Ernest Mitchell 22 of Manchester Missouri is hospitalized with a mangled left arm after his car was sideswiped by a truck south of La Porte City Monday night. The truck driver fled the scene. Mary Tobin and Phyllis Nieting of Vinton and Harold Schrader of St. Louis were passengers and uninjured.

Vinton Woman Burns From Leaking Kerosene Stove
Mrs. George Horning of Vinton suffered severe facial and arm burns when kerosene leaking from an oil stove burner caught fire Tuesday. She is hospitalized in Vinton. The blaze damaged the kitchen, with official losses around $1,000. Horning lived alone.

Rockwell Public School Damaged By Fire
A Tuesday night fire in Rockwell Iowa destroyed the public school building with damages of 35000 for the structure and 15000 for equipment per Dr J C Kaiser president of the school board. Dougherty and Sheffield fire crews aided Rockwell firefighters with one firefighter injured a fractured arm and two others slightly burned. The blaze started in an attic storeroom and was under control by 6 am Wednesday. Firefighters saved the adjoining gymnasium building.

Employment in Iowa Gains in June Survey Says
