ICE enforcement upturn tightens bonds and detentions

Immigration lawyer Dan Vondra says enforcement is rising as the Trump administration broadens targets to include those with minor offenses or no convictions. The case of Altamimi shows detentions increasing even for noncriminal immigrants, with bail being harder to obtain and some detainees awaiting deportation while legal processes unfold.

North Liberty ends intercity bus service after brief run

The North Liberty City Council unanimously voted to end the intercity bus service on Sept. 1 due to high costs and low ridership. In eight months the program averaged 12 riders per month at about $4,010 monthly, equating to $215.50 per rider per trip. The city will consult its transit advisory committee and seek regional cooperation with Coralville Iowa City and Johnson County on future options.
